Sarah has worked in healthcare communications agencies since 1990. As a copywriter she developed award-winning campaigns for some of the world’s biggest Rx, OTC and consumer health brands. Sarah founded her own agency, Wordbird, almost 11 years ago. Her passionate belief that 'better trained staff do a better job for clients’ permeates the agency’s strengths-based culture and she is exceptionally proud of the alumni from the Wordbird Training Academy that now permeate many of the UK’s best communications agencies.
Sarah describes herself as a ‘seeker’ always looking for personal development opportunities for her team and herself. As well as having a business coach for over 10 years, Sarah believes that every job is a training ground for your next job.
In the last year, one of her sons has had a severe mental illness that has kept him hospitalised for most of the time. Learning to live with this trauma has led to some amazing personal discoveries about self care, depths of strength, gratitude, luck and most importantly balancing and managing energy levels.
Miriam Kenrick has been working in the pharmaceutical industry for over 25 years in companies large and small including GSK, Roche, Allergan and Santen. During this time she has grown in seniority to become international head of marketing with experience in pharma, biologics, vaccines, OTC and surgical but her true passion has evolved to leading change and shaping cultures that unleash people to create and deliver amazing things together.
Her passion for empowering and unleashing women has been a relatively newfound discovery. Having spent the last 10 years as a single parent of two kids (now teenagers) and with a partner living in another country she spent many years flying around as the archetypal Superwoman, living on adrenaline and cortisol and trying to prove to herself and the world that she could somehow do it all.
After a couple of close shaves with burnout, perimenopause and then 2 years locked at home with Covid, she decided to reinvent herself. This started with her redesigning habits in all areas of her life which created such a personal transformation that she trained as a Tiny Habits coach and started to write a book for stressed-out midlife women on how to achieve balance in their lives. Realising that she had spent most of her life hanging out with men she then trained as an female empowerment coach and has been on a mission ever since to unleash as many women as she can to be their biggest best selves.
Today she is VP Marketing, EMEA for Santen, a specialised ophthalmology pharmaceutical company, cofounder of WiP with Sarah, female empowerment coach, blogger, podcaster and yogi.
Rina Newton is a PhD pharmacist, a mum, an entrepreneur in the pharma space and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Women & Enterprise. What I love about Rina is that she brings an energetic ‘can do’ attitude to compliance.
In 2010 she set up CompliMed which went on to become the UK’s largest compliance and medical approval agency. She led a team of amazingly talented people and had a client base of >60 pharma companies. She left CompliMed last year after scaling the business and selling, and is currently nearing the end of her non-compete. You might have noticed that she is quite active on LinkedIn and has an obvious passion for compliance, so will be setting up and doing it all again very soon!
Anna Maxwell is CEO of Maxwellia a pioneering British start- up pharmaceutical company.
In July 2021, 60 years after the contraceptive pill was introduced, Maxwellia made history with the launch of Lovima® its daily oral contraceptive pill that can be bought by women from a pharmacy and online following a short conversation with a pharmacist, empowering women for the first time with the convenience of easy access and the choice to purchase this highly effective contraceptive without the need for a doctor’s appointment or prescription.
Hailed as one of the biggest revolutions in Women’s Health, half of pregnancies in the UK are unplanned, costing the NHS around £250m per year. Widening access to the pill with Lovima puts even more women in charge of their contraception and at the same time reduces costs for the NHS.
A disruptor for good , Anna is proud that Maxwellia’s liberating work is mentioned three times in the governments recently published Women’s Health Strategy.
Liz is one of the most inspirational women you will ever meet. And here is just one example. Last Friday, Liz roller skated a half marathon as part of her quest to raise £50,000 for charity in her 50th year. This is pretty impressive for anyone, but even more so for Liz, since she is blind.
Liz has Founded and scaled her own business and now helps others develop their businesses. She is a professional speaker on leadership and management, overcoming adversity, the importance of networking and diversity and inclusion. Liz champions women and has been one of our biggest supporters to set up women in pharma. She truly inspires me – and I hope she will inspire you.
Liz is not a woman in pharma, but if she was, I know she would be a very successful one!
